Our strides so far
Our Background
Uganda Refugee and Disaster Management Council (URDMC) is a local registered Ugandan-based non-governmental organization. The organization was founded in 2012 by former employees of Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) with the aim of protecting and promoting rights of refugees, asylum seekers and internally displaced persons. URDMC is formally registered as Number 11383 under the “The Non-Government Organization’s Registration Act, CAP.113.
URDMC promotes and protects the rights of people who have been forced to flee their countries, or their homes within their countries. URDMC is among the very few organisations that specializes, recognizes and complements the role of Government in its pursuance to Protection of the refugee’s community and internally displaced persons. URDMC has and continues to provide Services to several refugee and host communities. URDMC currently operates in the five (5) district of Lamwo, Adjumani, Koboko, Yumbe, Terego with country office in Arua City. URDMC has both development and Humanitarian wings thriving in development and humanitarian context across Uganda refugee operation and the hosting districts.
Since its inception in 2012, URDMC has carried out many humanitarian relief services, development and issued based programs especially for the empowerment of SGBV, Women, Children, Youth, and Otherwise EVIs. URDMC has an obligation and commitment to rebuild hope of the displaced, Population of concern with a vision of translating Faith into meaningful expression of Social Action and Development.

Our Objective
A peaceful, gender and climate just society which upholds all human rights through promotion of peaceful co-existence, delivery of livelihood and food security, education, climate change and economic and social justice interventions.

We used to Eat only Once a Day- Eriga Richard, 24 yrs
Eriga Richard, aged 24, is the one taking care of his brothers, sisters and his father. It is surprising that his father had become his dependent since he is still not old. However, the family’s history can explain: Richard’s mother was killed in 2015 in the South Sudanese conflict. In the following, his father suffered from serious depression.
Peace Would be Enough— Kot Thon, a 26 yrs
Kot Thon raises his hand. Yes, he is able to speak English. And yes, he would like to tell his story. Kot is 26 years old and just arrived an hour ago at the Transit Center Elegu, Adjumani District. Kot came together with his mother, his brother and 11 children. None of these children are his own; they are his siblings’sons and daughters.
